DESCRIPTION - PRIMARY DUTIES:

Our client is a rapidly growing, world leader in their field of supplying superior products that advance the quality of life for people.  Their commitment to excellence has made them one of the world's most respected names and they have a long history that goes back over 100 years, and revenues in this division that exceeded $5 Billion in 2008.  Continued growth and success has resulted in the need for a strategic packaging innovation expert to join their team.  


Position:
  Strategic Packaging Innovator

This position will require an individual that will be a highly creative and innovative force in driving the Packaging Innovation process for the company’s brands. They will be able to work closely with sales and marketing to understand and serve the customer’s needs and desires.  He/she is responsible for providing creative thinking and innovative leadership to identify and develop compelling packaging concepts. These concepts should support and stimulate growth of the company’s global consumer brands based on thorough understanding of business, consumer and customer needs.  Development of the strategic Packaging Innovation, long range planning through collaboration with key stakeholders to deliver continuous pipeline of new packaging is critical for the success of this position. 

Major Attributes and Responsibilities: 

This very “high visibility” and newly created position will require a pro-active person with a strong presence.  He, or she, must be able to effectively communicate and interact with high level management.  In addition the role requires: 

  • Being able to think creatively and design artistic approaches, illustrating innovation package design concepts. 
  • Ability to proactively initiate ideation and lead the development of concepts that provide competitive advantage within consumer retail and institutional markets, and contribute to consumer purchase decisions. Initiates testing on new packaging concepts that help fulfill unmet consumer needs and drive incremental sales.
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.
  • Establish collaborative innovation programs and lead cross-functional teams to effectively engage key stakeholders (Consumers, Marketing/Sales/Supply Chain functions, and external Suppliers) in development of new packaging concepts.
  • Must understand overall strategies of commercial Business Units to direct Supply Chain initiatives in support of strategic development programs.
  • Establish organizational alignment of strategic packaging innovation programs through effective communication. 
  • Maintain benchmarking library and current awareness of industry state-of-the-art technologies and packaging advancements, including innovative (novel) raw materials and finished packaging structures. 
  • Effectively interface with commercial Business Unit DVP position to collaborate in building overall brand strategy. 
 Reports to: Director, Global Packaging Technology
 
REQUIREMENTS - IDEAL BACKGROUND:
Role Requires:  BA/BS Degree in Packaging, Engineering, Design or related creative, scientific, technical field. MBA strongly preferred due to the business complexity and strategic focus of the position


Experience:  12 Plus Years m
inimum experience with progressively responsible leadership experience in either Consumer Packaged Goods or Healthcare/OTC organizations.  Peer/Industry/IP recognition of innovative packaging design with a knowledge of applicable regulatory standards and requirements for nutritionals.


Required Skills Sets:
  • Recognized authority in package innovation.
  • Proven success in leading initiatives to identify new innovative concepts and trends within Consumer Product Goods markets.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of new and evolving packaging trends.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with broad cross functional teams
  • Entrepreneurial and creative approach to deliver packaging solutions that deliver consumer, brand, quality and manufacturing objectives. 
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills. 
  • Demonstrated effective leadership competencies
