- PRIMARY DUTIES: | This is a leading division of a company that is a privately owned
$18 billion dollar company operating in 65 countries making them one of the largest ‘small family businesses’
in the world. This division provides specialty food products including many that are name brand items.
Their success is not simply due to developing the right products, rather the combination of innovation and determination.
With their successful and growing business they are ready to add a Senior Packaging Development Engineer. Position: Senior Packaging Development EngineerThis position determines, oversees and executes the development of conceptual
design and development activities in packaging. In addition, he, or she, will determine equipment and prototype
requirements, quality services and process development. The ideal candidate will collaborate with all managers
and developers in the product and technology areas. This position is accountable for product formats and
for executing R&D engineering developments for the Business Unit and platform technologies. Principal Accountabilities: - Leveraging
technologies across all business units when feasible
- Developing “product with package”
designs that leverage consumer/customer needs
- Providing technical support to packaging development,
QS and manufacturing on new or existing manufacturing processes
- Delivery of scalable packaging innovation
collaboratively developed with key peer groups to achieve exceptional packaging attributes that enhance the consumer experience
with the overall proposition.
- Identification and evaluation of innovative packaging and processing
options based on product attribute requirements including evaluation based on technical and economic feasibility
- Build/maintain
networks with the Technology, Product Implementation, Packaging, Engineering, QS and Platform Technology teams
- Translate
technology ideas into visual, physical models and working prototypes
- Provide scalable technology
platforms for the business with Identification of key enabling technologies supporting
- Application of
technologies which effectively change consumer awareness and perceived value while driving towards positive FATR, and COGS
results
- Identification of the key enabling technologies that support the business unit.
- Collaboration
with Central Engineering on relevant projects
- Delivery and collaboration with Central Engineering
on relevant projects
- Advance Lean (value-added) development principles
- Manage scale-up
risk and introduction of technology into supply chain
- Direct leadership of key engineering development
projects
- Project, Budget, Associate Management
Reports to: Packaging Development Manager | | | | REQUIREMENTS - IDEAL BACKGROUND: | Role Requires:
B.S. in Packaging or MS/PHD in Engineering/Technology or related.
Experience:
7 Plus Years in R&D or
Engineering development with knowledge of relevant techniques and their influence on packaging, equipment, and technologies.
Broad working knowledge of food science and packaging science, industry best practices, consumer needs/trends, and
potential relevant applications and benefits. Required
Skills/Knowledge: - Demonstrated process and packaging science knowledge, as well as packaging engineering.
- Familiar
with machine design development and design through virtual prototyping methods
- Knowledge of manufacturing technology
and relevant use, as well as regulatory requirements.
- Process development knowledge with focus
on speed-to-market with a creative, value-add type of thinking.
- Able to meet or exceed the standards
and expectations of internal and external customers and consumers.
- Technology hurdle identification,
resourcing and management to timeline
- Proven ability to manage packaging projects and to multi-task
and organize.
- Strong creative skills with effective knowledge of technology allowing the advancement
of ideas and concepts
- Decision Making Authority and Impact Development process optimization
- Forming
Identification of “gap” key enabling technologies
- Budget funding and spending as well
as lean standards development
- Familiarity with test environment as well as safety process and protocol.
