Position: Principal Engineer, Packaging The Principal Engineer, Packaging will be responsible for designing, developing and testing
a wide variety of equipment and packaging used for protection, display and handling of products. He, or
she, will determine packaging specifications, cost limitations, legal requirements and related documentation. They will direct
external resources / contractors as required. In addition, the successful candidate for this role will: - Demonstrate advanced
knowledge of package Engineering principles and techniques
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of legal
requirements and documents
- Independently design, prototype and qualify moderately-complex new packaging
concepts in accordance with cGMP's
- Independently evaluate and improve moderately-complex existing packaging
concepts
- Independently identify, analyze and specify moderately-complex or custom packaging materials
and equipment
- Mentor external resource/contractors as required
- Work to understand
complex functional situations by paying attention to the details of the tasks at hand and by breaking them down into smaller
pieces
- Encourage informed Risk-taking and act as a catalyst for innovation at the company; generates practical,
sustainable and creative options to solve problems and create business opportunities, while maximizing existing resources.
- Proactively
develop and maintain technical knowledge in specialized area(s), remaining up-to-date on current trends and best practices;
Accountabilities in this role: - Packaging/product design and development, test of materials, preparation of specifications, validation preparation/execution,
and documentation.
- Will provide work direction to technicians.
- Identifies potential cost reductions
opportunities and coordinates packaging materials and equipment needs.
- Performs troubleshooting
on new/existing packages/products/process problems as related to design, material, or process.
- Summarizes, analyzes,
and draws conclusions from test results.
- Designs and coordinates standard engineering
tests and experiments.
- Works independently to plan and schedule own activities
necessary to meet timelines.
- Prepares reports/documentation using good documentation practices and
effectively communicate results.
Reports to: Director of Engineering
| | | | REQUIREMENTS - IDEAL BACKGROUND: | Role Requires: B.S. in Packaging or in a related field required.
Experience: 4 Plus Years
related work experience required.
Required Skills/Knowledge: Demonstrates Packaging equipment
knowledge particularly band, impulse, hot bar Sealers and TFFS w/ inline printing. Working knowledge of
all forms and applications of Medical Device packaging Working
knowledge of ISTA, ASTM test procedures as related to Medical Device Packaging. In addition the successful
candidate will have: - Ability to work cooperatively with process development,
quality, manufacturing, regulatory, clinical, Packaging Lab and marketing to ensure project success. Ability
to train and coach others from technical expertise
- Working knowledge and expertise with ISO, FDA, and international
requirements applicable to Sterile and non Sterile Medical Device Packaging
- Experience in managing multiple
projects on a schedule.
- Working knowledge of statistics and Minitab
- Knowledge of clean room and
sterilization process
