DESCRIPTION - PRIMARY DUTIES:

Position:  Senior Packaging Engineer
Description The Senior Packaging Engineer is responsible for the creation and innovation of new products/processes and supports their implementation in multiple manufacturing facilities. The Senior Engineer will provide expertise in the areas of cost reductions, identification and procurement of new packaging machinery, and packaging documentation. Senior Engineers will also support the design and selection of packaging for new and / or improved products. Senior engineers are frequently assigned leadership responsibility for entire projects or subprojects.
 

Essential Functions:  Identify and support cost reduction opportunities in regards to Packaging.- Identify and support the purchasing of new packaging equipment.- Provide technical support and training to manufacturing in regards to packaging systems and machinery.- Prepare capital expenditure requests, drawings and specifications for new processes and equipment.- Prepare packaging validation protocols and reports to support packaging changes.- Perform packaging validation testing to support changes.- Support material qualifications for packaging changes such as resin material changes. - Support design and selection of packaging for new product introductions- Create and update packaging specifications for manufacturing.- Assist in artwork creation and revisions for product packaging.- Operate various testing apparatus in qualifying packaging changes. - Create sterilization pallet patterns as well as non-sterile pallet patterns for most manufacturing locations.- Contributes to engineering schedules and plans.- Prepares monthly progress reports on projects.- Prepares presentations for various company meetings.- Provides work direction to lab technicians as required. 

Department Specific/Non-Essential Functions:  Conduct review meetings with multiple facilities regarding packaging issues.- Provide support to various departments such as R&D regarding packaging issues.- Create and update packaging specifications for documentation

Reports to:  Manager of Packaging, Medical Supplies
REQUIREMENTS - IDEAL BACKGROUND:
Role Requires:  B.S. in Package Engineering or related engineering field.

Experience:  5-7 Years of experience minimum in a medical device, pharmaceutical or related industry.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:  The important item on this job is Form/Fill/Seal experience.  In addition the person needs to be a current packaging professional that has stayed in the field.  They should be proficient in Six-Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and TQM methodologies with Form Fill and Seal experience, with equipment Multivac, Hooper etc..  He , or she should have highly developed project management skills to include formalized methodologies, written and verbal communication skills, and strong business acumen.  Proven leadership skills and the ability to manage complex projects and problem solving activities.  Ability to plan and document projects effectively.  Ability to manage multiple ongoing projects by way of good organizational skills.
