DESCRIPTION - PRIMARY DUTIES:

Our client is a nutrition and foods company that was established almost 150 years ago.  The company is a leader in the world of food packaging and products and they operate in nearly 90 countries around the world.  They are committed to increasing the nutritional value of their products while improving the taste, brand recognition and promoting health and wellness.  They are committed to creating innovative solutions for better consumer food packaging. 

Position:  Senior Packaging Technologist
The Senior Packaging Technologist will coordinate packaging initiatives, new product introductions, new packaging concepts, renovation and innovation of packaging components.  In addition, he, or she, will work with Tetra Pak equipment start-up and support, line trials, including quality and cost initiatives, and maintenance of existing specifications for packaging components.  They will actively seek new packaging concepts which will lead to a competitive advantage.  Furthermore they will identify and support cost reduction opportunities as well as developing and maintaining relationships with Client’s vendors for packaging components.  The company may consider a very sharp lighter weight candidate for a Packaging Technologist position.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Provide Project Management leadership for the renovation and innovation of packaging materials and systems requested by Marketing, Company Business Services, and Factory Operations.  Act as a packaging liaison between Corporate and Factory functional teams.
  • Identify and recommend new packaging materials, equipment, and methods.  Assist with the installation and modification of new and existing packaging and filling lines.  Insure packaging lines meet or exceed specified operating efficiencies.
  • Work with Quality Assurance to manage Packaging Safety and Compliance to insure that packaging material suppliers, product contact surfaces, and artwork meet appropriate regulations and corporate expectations. 
  • Work with packaging material vendors to maintain relationships and to identify and implement quality improvement and cost reduction projects. 
  • Keep Company Nutrition aware of new packaging industry innovations.  Assist in packaging related material and equipment troubleshooting.  Assist with operator training and development of packaging related SOPs.  
  • Review and approve preliminary and final artwork.  Insure proper form, fit, and function.  Verify physical size, bar code placement, and proper allowance for plant coding operations.  Confirm final artwork is associated to proper specification prior to release to vendors.
This position coordinates activities with Production, Purchasing, Plant Engineering, plant and corporate Quality Assurance functions, and corporate Packaging/Technical Services.  As a Project Manager, this position will coordinate activities with Project Supervisors, Engineers, Drying and Manufacturing Technologists, Production Operators, and Research and Development Personnel. 

Reports to:  Manager, Technical Packaging
REQUIREMENTS - IDEAL BACKGROUND:

Role Requires:  B.S. in Package Engineering or related engineering field.

Experience:  A minimum of 5 Plus Years of experience with Tetra Pak, high barrier materials and laminations, injection molding, blow molding, flexible films, steel cans, glass, and packaging equipment in general. Experience with FDA regulations and Packaging Safety and Compliance preferred. 

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:  Strong project management skills are required as well as:

  • Excellent organization, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Takes initiative, makes effective use of everyone’s time, and strives to achieve timely solutions.
  • A “self-starter” requiring minimal direct supervision.
  • Team player.
  • Understands principles of QMS, HACCP, and SOP’s.
  • Strong food processing background--fluid, aseptic, and drying preferred.
  • Proficient with MS Project, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Skilled trainer.
