for a Packaging Engineer, R&D. |
Packaging Engineer, Research and Development will lead early stage package development projects, working with Products
Research, Marketing Services, Product Development, Brand Management, external design agencies and/or suppliers in early stage
new package and/or new product design. In addition, he or she will lead the Technical Readiness process
for package-focused projects and/or collaborate with technical readiness leaders on other projects to provide required packaging
project support. Additional responsibilities will include:
- Define and conduct package development
testing to ensure technical readiness for production, distribution, and consumer use.
- Design, develop
and implement new flexible and rigid packaging including film/laminate, blow molded, injection molded, thermoformed, paperboard
(folding cartons), and/or corrugated technologies.
- Design and execute package qualifications for blow molded containers
and injection molded parts with suppliers and coffee production plants.
- Provide innovative ideas leading
to the application of new packaging technologies and solving packaging related challenges. Plan, Execute,
Analyze and summarize plant trials working closely with Manufacturing and site technical resources.

- Support packaging
technical support organization as needed to resolve packaging supply chain or production technical issues.

Manager, Research and Development - Product Package Development
|REQUIREMENTS - IDEAL BACKGROUND:|
of Science in Packaging or Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or other technical degrees considered with appropriate
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in package development or operations packaging technical support.
Especially interested in candidates with rigid packaging experience - blow molding and injection molding (bottles,
jars, canisters, caps, etc.). The ideal candidate will have experience through the full package design,
development, and qualification stages of a rigid packaging project. Candidates should be able to provide
details about relevant experience with a project(s) in this type of package development. Other areas that
would be a plus include films & laminates, barrier packaging and innovation. Experience with aseptic,
cartons, corrugated, labels, metal cans, and artwork and specification development would also be a plus.
Additional skills, knowledge
and abilities include:
- Prototype development
- Materials performance testing and supplier
- Packing line
trials in manufacturing plants
- Material specification development
- Familiarity with
multiple packaging materials, technologies, and processes is desirable.
- Proven technical mastery in package development,
preferably with food packaging experience is highly desired.
- Mastery of basic package qualification test procedures.
to collaborate and work across multi-functional and discipline boundaries in a dynamic project environment.
- Project management
experience would be highly valued for this role, as the individual will collaborate cross functionally to manage costs, schedules
and resources for the work.
- Experience conducting plant trials.
- Be able to travel 10-15%.
