This individual will be responsible for primary package development where use of rigid plastics is prevalent so a minimum of 2 years experience with blow molded and injection molded plastics is absolutely necessary. This includes mold design and qualification including developing bottles, closures, and other rigid plastic packaging components.

DESCRIPTION - DUTIES

Company Overview:  This is a leading global healthcare company founded in 1887 and now a high-quality pharmaceutical manufacturing organization and world-class supply chain network. The company is a manufacturer of over-the-counter healthcare products and a supplier of infant formulas for the store brand market. It also is a leading provider of branded OTC products throughout Europe and the U.S. as well as a leading producer of "extended topical" prescription drugs.


Position: The Packaging Engineer will provide package engineering support and packaging component expertise to the company through the design, development, and maintenance of packaging standards for various company and outside sub-contracting product packaging sites.


Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot and resolve packaging issues associated with packaging component quality, packaging equipment, and packaging line efficiency.
  • Participate in deviation resolutions as a result of packaging component quality, and coordinate, conduct, and document packaging line trials for new or improved packaging components.
  • Work closely with other functional areas and multi-functional teams such as Operations, Sales, Marketing, Procurement, Master Data, Art, and Quality to launch new products/packages.
  • Develop promotions and displays, develop cost savings initiatives, and troubleshoot packaging problems.
  • Participate in the selection of new equipment and/or tooling.
  • Develop and prepare packaging specifications and bill of materials, cost estimates, and realizations. Conduct and document package testing for component approval or troubleshooting.

REQUIREMENTS - BACKGROUND

Education:  Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering or other equivalent engineering discipline.


Experience:  2-6 years experience as a packaging engineer in pharmaceutical, medical device, or consumer goods.


Skills and Knowledge:

  • Experience in developing bottles, closures, or other rigid plastic packaging components.
  • Proven ability to work independently toward specific goals and to exercise initiative in identifying projects.
  • Strong analytical skills including the ability to develop sound economic analysis, problem solving skills, interpersonal skills, and a commitment to customer service.
  • Demonstrated broad knowledge of methods in package design, testing, and packaging materials, tooling, methods improvement, ergonomics, and project management skills.
  • Working knowledge of cGMPs, along with USP and CR testing requirements
