The emphasis for this position is a required experience with flexible films.  This would include multi-wall bags and foil laminates with barrier qualities.  In any case, they require that experience. 

DESCRIPTION - DUTIES

Position: The R&D Scientist, Packaging Engineer is responsible for understanding consumers’ needs and translating them into technical requirements and consumer models to drive business impact. The incumbent will leverage technical thinking skills to bring together consumer needs and product possibilities into winning innovation. The R&D Scientist, Packaging Engineer has a defined area of technical expertise and a consistent track record of key innovations with important business impacts. He/she initiates and leads technology or capability advances, and may be assigned the most important business and technical challenges.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Uses best practices and knowledge of internal or external business issues to improve products or services
  • Solves complex problems; takes a new perspective using existing solutions
  • Works independently, with guidance in only complex situations (e.g., when decisions have functional or organizational impact)
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience; may formally manage a small number of individuals in own area of expertise
  • Impacts a range of customer, operational, project or service activities within own team and other related teams; works generally independently within broad guidelines and processes
  • Requires conceptual and practical expertise in own discipline and basic knowledge of related disciplines
  • Partners with team members to develop key tasks and project plans for timely completion of goals
  • Independently execute and manage multiple projects and deliverables within defined priorities
  • Independently execute and manage the evaluation, development, and qualification of multiple packaging technologies and packing processes within known applications

REQUIREMENTS - BACKGROUND

Education:  Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering /Science, Technology, or Engineering.


Experience:  Requires at least 4 years or more years of packaging experience with a strong preference for experience in flexible packaging.


Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Previous commercialization experience is preferred
  • Expertise with MS Office software (Excel, Outlook, Word, and Power Point)
  • Practitioner in designing and qualifying films, laminates, bags, bag forming/filling/sealing, paper/paperboard, carton design, as well as pallet pattern design/qualification
  • Practitioner in process of packing, packing/packaging transformations, and packing line commissioning and qualification
  • General experience in rigid packaging, injection molding, blow molding, thermoforming technologies
  • Experience in using Design Thinking in developing and designing packages is a plus
  • Practitioner in Computer Aided Design software such as ProE, Solidworks, etc., is a plus
  • Approximately 30% Travel required
