DESCRIPTION - DUTIES

Company Overview:  This company continues to redefine the beauty industry through great product, great retail and direct-to-consumer partnerships.  This shows up in everything they do and in what they stand for.  Through original development, collaborations and acquisitions the company has a stable of brands that will always be creative, inspiring and innovative.


Position: The Packaging Development Director will be responsible for developing quality, innovative, first-to-market products for the company’s brands.


Duties & Responsibilities:

·        Oversee and manage package development and innovation for all company products

·        Categories include compacts, bottles, jars, pump, tubes, paper, accessories, soft goods, and more

·        Responsible for technical specs (2D and 3D) to develop both stock and custom packages

·        Lead component design and material selection

·        Work with designers to execute complex artwork on both primary and secondary packs

·        Own internal and external communications regarding products in development including timelines, costs, MOQ, and package design and features

·        Manage tooling and launch deadlines and margin targets

·        Improve and optimize the quality and performance of existing core products

·        Work with cross-functional teams – formula, quality, ops, production, and brand management

·        Evaluate submissions with team and brand founders for unified feedback

·        Actively contribute in brand specific product development meetings

·        Manage team of 2-3 people

·        Survey competitive landscape to develop best-in-class products

·        Develop and maintain relationships with existing and new suppliers, internal, cross-functional teams and brand founders

·        Research and suggest possible new suppliers

·        Travel as needed – brand founder meetings, trade shows

REQUIREMENTS - BACKGROUND

Education:  Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Packaging or an Equivalent Engineering degree,.


Experience:  Requires a minimum of 7 or more years of packaging development experience in related field.  He, or she, will need some past people management experience.

  • Passionate about makeup and packaging
  • Experience in multiple materials and package types
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects – prioritization and planning
  • Proven track record of taking ownership and driving results
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, often-changing collaborative environment
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to think both strategically and tactically with exceptional attention to detail
