Position:  The Project Engineering Manager-Packaging will plan and direct project management activities within the organization and ensure all initiatives and processes conform to established policies and objectives. He, or she, will assist the Director in being SME on Packaging Material decisions.  The role is part of the Corporate Engineering team located at its largest plant in Virginia which has more than 500 employees.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

·        Assist multiple facilities in project management for the development of new and revised packaging materials (bottles, caps, labels, corrugated, cartons, etc.).

·        Assist in the development of capital expenditures by reviewing and approving requests.

·        Project administration - participate in the initial project development, roles and responsibilities, goal setting, cost review, work breakdown structure, resources plan.

·        Assist with change control.

·        Regulatory and environmental requirements - provide guidance and advice to local implementation teams and business units.

·        Project administration - cost estimating, schedule tracking, decision making, project performance tracking.

·        Project administration support system.

·        Assist in standardization - develop and implement a consistent and standardized process of managing projects.

·        Creation and maintenance of standards and methods fore assigned Business Unit; i.e. Aseptic, ESL

·        Provided advice regarding best practices.

·        Develop a centralized archive of lessons learned and suggest improvements in the development process.

·        Responsible for maintaining relationships between their customers, senior executives, colleagues, vendors and contractors. Provide efficient customer service and communicate with people at all levels.


Education:  Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and must possess a deep understanding of project management/engineering processes in the food, dairy, and beverage industry.

Experience:  Requires a minimum of 7 years’ experience in project management. Specific experience within bottle and cap packaging is highly preferred as is experience in project management and/or new product development processes. Experience working with AutoCAD also is preferred.  

Skills & Competencies:        

  • In depth knowledge of manufacturing process of packaging materials as well as a thorough understanding of processing, electrical, mechanical and packaging equipment.
  • In-depth knowledge dairy and beverage production, including conventional, extended shelf-life, aseptic, cultured and frozen desired.
  • Ability to supervise contractors and employees who design and develop projects, systems and processes and responsible for ensuring the technical accuracy of their work and the reliability of their methods.
  • Knowledge of engineering administrative and management principles.
  • Knowledge about building and construction materials, physics, design and mathematics, as well as practical applications of engineering science and technology.
  • Knowledge of public safety and security policies and procedures that are to be applied to promote safe operations for the protection of people, data and property.
