DESCRIPTION - DUTIES

Position:  The Principal Product Engineer will support Company projects and works within the R&D Team.  This position will serve as the Product Engineering Core Team Member of the new product development team. The position will lead R&D product development activities, ensure milestones are met, identify technical project risks, and ensure strategies are developed to effectively mitigate these risks.


Essential Functions & Basic Duties:

·        In-depth expertise in product and packaging-related business needs and competitive landscape

·        Acts as Product Engineering Core Team Member on new product development launches

·        Leads and develops ideas, concepts, and prototypes to solve problems and meet customer/consumer needs in new and superior ways

·        Leads the packaging and product development of all unit initiatives

·        Lead technical interface with component suppliers and TPM’s

·        Identifies technical and project risks and ensures strategies are in place to effectively mitigate risks

·        Author or reviews test protocols, trial requests, and reports

·        Supervises up to 2 Scientists and/or Engineers

·        Trains new hires on test methods and departmental SOPs

·        Develops, writes and validates test methods to evaluate performance of packaging prototypes

·        Is knowledgeable regarding product packaging equipment and makes recommendations.

·        Identify  innovative packaging ideas to present for feasibility evaluation

REQUIREMENTS - BACKGROUND

Education:  B.S. Degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical. Engineering or equivalent. Masters Degree is a plus. A PhD in a regulated products environment will be considered with 8 years of experience.


Experience: 10 or more years of relevant experience in product engineering and/or packaging development with expertise in prototyping techniques. Also needed is advanced technical knowledge of regulated packaging, e.g., flexible films, rigid containers/injection molding, cartons, and corrugated.


Skills/Abilities:

  • Experience in a regulated environment, preferably EPA surface disinfectant products
  • Advantageous to have previous experience with wipes / non-wovens
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical engineering teams
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment, with multiple projects of varying complexity;
  • Demonstrated ability for the application of best practices in product development
  • Proven results with building strong customer relationships, anticipating customer needs, and delivering customer-centric solutions.
  • Able to build partnerships and work collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage intellectual property
  • Knowledge of standards and regulatory requirements which guide EPA and FDA regulated products.
  • Utilize understanding of complex, high quantity, and sometimes contradictory information effectively to solve problems.
  • Able to plan and prioritize work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals.
  • Knowledge of engineering processes such as product life cycle, change, and an in-depth knowledge of cGMP packaging design, and change management.
  • Proficient with computer skills MS Office, Tops or Cape, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, TOPS or Cape, Solidworks or Creo, AutoCAD, Adobe, and Minitab.
