DESCRIPTION - DUTIES

Company Overview:  This privately held company is a leading packaging supplier to the Cosmetic, Beauty and Personal Care industries. Their clients include many that are well known name brands. They  combine design and engineering expertise, consumer trend insight, and an insider understanding of the relationship between product and package for solutions that innovate at all stages of beauty product development.


Position:  The Senior Packaging Engineer is a vital role in the Packaging Department and provides advanced support to the engineering team with technical analysis regarding designs, developments, product/package performance, customer development, quality concerns, product validation and continuous quality improvement. The Senior Packaging Engineer will be detailed oriented in the day-to-day transactional work but also will be interfacing in more strategic conversations regarding complex problems with leaders inside and outside of the organization.


Position Relationships:

This position is part of the engineering team and reports to the VP of Packaging. This role works primarily and directly with design, development, project managers, China Engineering, China Quality and Account Managers to deliver innovative new packaging for brand meeting their launch timelines. This includes daily follow-up with U.S. teams at the headquarters in Dallas and sales offices as verbal and electronic communication with the product teams in China.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads Engineering/Quality for development and implementation of new and innovative beauty packaging
  • Functions as a member of the engineering team as a Senior Packaging Engineer
  • Provides training, guidance and approval of testing/output for less tenured packaging engineers
  • Solves customer technical issues for stock packaging with AM’s/Sales, and works directly with customers to deliver best solutions
  • Reviews and creates specs for new development PQP’s, FMEA’s, approves validation for 1st production
  • Travels to attend to and lead customer line trials, customer quality issues
  • Investigates customer quality issues and complaints, communicates directly with Company customers, and provides for timely and winning customer resolution
  • Manages factory quality issues by ruling on commercial acceptability and resolving quality issue with Company China/Factory
  • Designs, guides and oversees the performance of product/package testing by the team
  • Writes packaging specifications, testing protocols, SOP’s and departmental procedures
  • Manages and prioritizes a list of testing/tasks/activities in an open and transparent way: to manage expectations, reduce risks and optimize workflow
  • Develops timelines for projects, new packaging testing and reporting; insures commitments to timelines
  • Reviews and approves all packaging test reports
  • Presents findings and designs and recommendations to senior management on key projects and initiatives
  • Lead or participates in other assigned projects

REQUIREMENTS - BACKGROUND

Education:  Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Package Engineering or similar science from an accredited college or university.


Experience:  Requires a minimum of 3 or more years, *or possibly 2 or more years, if it is directly in the cosmetic area.  Desire experience in a technical packaging support position in cosmetics, beauty packaging or related CPG environment.  Experience in one or more of the following strongly desired: SolidWorks, E-Drawings, Mini tabs, Laboratory equipment.
