Be able to understand and apply basic principles of distribution testing and how to apply ASTM, ISO, and ISTA testing standards.  To also be able to improve and expand on basic testing principles, and create new testing guidelines.

Position Details:  The company is searching for a Principal Package Engineer Group Leader to support their package testing group in Eastern PA.  This position will be responsible for providing expertise on Medical Device packaging and conducting a broad range of mechanical tests on medical device/pharmaceutical packaging and packaging materials in accordance with regulatory and customer requirements. The Principal Package Engineer Group Leader’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Applies GMP/GLP in all areas of responsibility, as appropriate
  • Demonstrates and promotes the company vision
  • Regular attendance and punctuality
  • Develop/improve processes in the Package Testing Lab
  • Guide clients to appropriate testing requirements
  • Provide Medical Device packaging expertise to internal/external customers
  • Sample preparation, physical testing, and generation of test reports
  • Conduct testing in accordance with written SOPs and industry standards, following Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs) and/or Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs)
  • Responsibly manage data in Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and Laboratory Notebooks
  • Develop technical reports of test results following defined documentation procedures
  • Ensure proper maintenance and operation of test equipment
  • Assist in equipment qualification and development of SOPs
  • Assist in receipt/storage of customer samples
  • Demonstrate and maintain awareness of technical innovations and progress in package testing
  • Share in maintaining tidiness of laboratory
  • Conducts all activities in a safe and efficient manner
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Lead team, schedule, and train employees in client environment
  • Ensure adherence to highest quality and efficiency standards in laboratory operations
  • Ensure coverage and performance
  • Foster morale and teamwork

Key Other Factors for Success:

  • Understand basic principles of distribution testing and how to apply ASTM, ISO, and ISTA testing standards.
  • Improve and expand on basic testing principles, and create new testing guidelines. 

(For example, instead of doing pallet testing, we can perform single stack to see how the single stack behaves to pallet testing.)

REQUIREMENTS - BACKGROUND

Education:  Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Package Engineering or other related concentration or equivalent.


Experience:  Requires a minimum of 3 or more years of Medical Device Packaging experience.


The ideal candidate would possess:

  • Understanding of mechanical testing techniques
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and confidence in working with mechanical equipment
  • Effective writing skills for production of technical reports
  • Advanced understanding of the Medical Device industry
  • Strong computer, scientific, and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude
  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, follow instructions, and comply with company policies
  • Strong leadership, initiative, and teambuilding skills
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship
