This is a “Ground Floor” opportunity with a young packaging department where you can build a legacy and create your future. Will need to be a hand’s on, savvy in systems person.  Work will include further setting up, defining and refining a Specification System.  The person will be the “Subject Matter Expert” on Packaging!

DESCRIPTION - DUTIES

Company Overview:  This privately held company was founded in 1990 and has been growing at a rate over 20% per year.  They operate with the belief that their customers’ success is their greatest achievement. During this time, they have strived to consistently deliver superior products at competitive prices and provide the highest degree of attention to their customers. They are a wholly-owned subsidiary of a strong parent company that is one of the leading U.S. Medical Device manufacturers.  They specialize in products for wound closure and specialty surgical applications.  Their products are sold and available world-wide and they also manufacture a comprehensive portfolio of private label sutures and wound closure products, sold through a global network of distributors, for the veterinary and human medical market.  All of their veterinary suture products are manufactured to the same rigorous requirements as their human medical products.


Position: The Packaging Engineer is responsible for leading the planning, development and implementation of complex packaging / labeling projects in support of existing operations. This position will be a subject matter expert in packaging / labeling equipment, processes and materials.  Depending on the prior experience, this position may be upgraded to Senior Packaging Engineer.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·        Strong knowledge of Packaging Materials and testing.

·        Provide day to day support on existing packaging / labeling processes and equipment and Sterilization.

·        Capable of leading and executing packaging / labeling related projects from design through validation

·        Maintain and follow Quality System requirements; including but not limited to understanding of change control, validation, documentation practices, and design control requirements.

·        Provide engineering expertise in the design, fabrication, development, installation, validation and qualification of packaging / labeling equipment and software which may include feasibility studies and/or proper documentation for justification of project and training to ensure proper operation of the equipment

·        Provide technical assistance and leadership in the planning and implementation of packaging / labeling projects to develop, install, and qualify new processes for manufacturing or improving existing processes

·        Maintains high awareness of technical trends and developments in the packaging industry

·        May be necessary to coordinate the activities of support groups such as purchasing, scheduling, production, etc. Collecting of data from various sections.

·        Performs other job related duties assigned.

REQUIREMENTS - BACKGROUND

Education:  Requires a BS in Packaging, Mechanical, or related engineering field


Experience:  Requires 3-5 or more years of relevant work experience in a packaging engineering position, preferably in a medical device or regulated industry.  If a 3-5 year candidate, the experience must me in Medical Devices.  Experience in a manufacturing environment for designing, specifying, assembling, and validating packaging / labeling equipment, processes, and software.  Able to analyze all aspects of package systems


Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment for designing, specifying, assembling, and validating packaging / labeling equipment, processes, and software.  Able to analyze all aspects of package systems
  • Thorough understanding of medical device processes and systems highly preferred. 
  • Excellent knowledge of packaging test methodology including a thorough understanding of physical and structure package testing procedures.
  • Excellent understanding of packaging materials’ capabilities and equipment.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of statistical techniques
  • Thorough knowledge of equipment and process validations, including development of protocols and execution of protocols.  Knowledge of GMP/FDA regulations highly preferred.
  • Successful experience leading project teams is preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of equipment and tools in laboratory testing and inspection systems.
  • Ability to create and work from engineering drawings.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Position may require light travel, less than 10% per year.
