DESCRIPTION – DUTIES – REQUIREMENTS

Company:  This company is a leading global food company that was founded in 1908.  They sell their products in more than 130 countries and regions.  It is a publicly held company with thousands of employees and sales in the billions of dollars annually. 


Position:  The primary role of the Packaging Engineer position is to deliver innovative packaging solutions based on consumer insights and marketing requirements. This position will also support existing businesses through packaging revisions, cost improvement projects and packaging harmonization projects. The Packaging Engineer must bring the necessary technical skills and passion for packaging; hold an excellent project management rigor to deliver packaging innovation projects and related work stream activities on schedule. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Innovate with new packaging substrates and structures to drive leading packaging designs for retail and foodservice products
  • Lead all project work within assigned categories, being the main point of contact for the project team regarding any packaging questions or issues while taking a pro-active approach to potential problems on meeting deadlines or packaging design
  • Conduct appropriate distribution testing to validate designs and strength of material
  • Perform plant trials, verifying packaging works accordingly through various plant machinery
  • Manage all aspects of specification development, BOM creation and document retention for packaging materials across all AFNA systems
  • Build & manage timelines for each project ensuring deadlines are met through each project stage
  • Investigate and lead cost savings efforts on packaging materials, design improvements and efficiencies within manufacturing facilities
  • Manage dielines and artwork through development and approval
  • Manage quality issue resolution from manufacturing facilities, distribution centers and customers, driving rapid resolution through analytical and fact based investigation. 

Education:  Bachelor’s Degree in Packaging Engineering from a recognized Packaging Program

  • Certified Packaging Professional (CPP)
  • Experience in Packaging Engineering role, preferably within CPG/Food/Beverage
  • In-Depth understanding of manufacturing, machinery and packaging substrates including plastics, film, corrugate and paperboard
  • Knowledge of Packaging Engineering processes such as product life cycle, change, and an in-depth knowledge of cGMP packaging design and change management requirements

Experience:  *Level is dependent on Experience (1–5 years’ experience – Packaging Engineer I or 5–10 years’ experience - Packaging Engineer II)


Qualifications:

  • Proficient in CAPE and MS Office Suite including MS Project
  • Attention to detail and sense of urgency to facilitate organized, accurate and effective project launches
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and interact with all levels of the organization, communicating effectively
  • Excellent communication and presentation, ability to deal effectively with all levels of the organization and our suppliers
  • Strong understanding of the role of the consumer and business/brands and the ability to balance these needs alongside the rational requirements of the commercial business and technical constraints of manufacturing processes.
